St. Gall Parish and St. Simon Chapel
|
- The parish is located at 5511 S. Sawyer in Chicago (at the corner of Kedzie & 55th), and was established in the late 1900’s, with the attached school starting in the 1920s and still serving many children today. The parish was recently merged with the chapel (which is located at 5157 S. California). Between the 2 locations there are 8 Sunday Masses offered, in Spanish and English.
- During the years 1992-1999, Fr. David Dowdle was the pastor of St. Gall, before joining St. John of the Cross Parish as our pastor. This is where the connection between our two parishes began.
- St. Gall is also home to the Catholic Charities Southwest Regional Office, which provides significant assistance through the food pantry, clothing closet, and other services, and the Saint Vincent DePaul society which is actively involved in the food pantry as well as other support programs for the school and families.
- The St. Gall food pantry was closed for a short period of time, but it expected to re-open in the near future. They will be open on Wednesdays from 11am-1pm, and will operate like a grocery store, with those “shopping” for the food items they need.
- SJC supports St. Gall through not only monthly financial support, but also throughout the year with deliveries of hams/turkeys during the Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, adoption of numerous families through our Share Christmas program, and a back to school backpack program.
